PSTI Act compliance demonstrates Beko plc's commitment to protecting the privacy and security of our valued customers

Beko plc demonstrates ongoing commitment to protecting the privacy and security of customers by achieving PSTI Act compliance

We are proud to announce that we are compliant with the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act 2022. On April 29th, the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act came into effect, requiring manufacturers of certain connectable consumer appliances to comply with a range of internet security measures. At Beko plc, we have worked tirelessly with our support and service teams to ensure our compliance with these legal requirements, further highlighting our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of security and reliability for our customers.

The PSTI Act addresses Government concerns over the internet security of connected consumer products and places three main security requirements on manufacturers. These are a ban on default or easily guessed passwords, a ‘Vulnerability Disclosure Policy’ requiring manufacturers to clearly detail the process for reporting security vulnerabilities and a requirement for manufacturers to provide clear information for consumers on how long security updates will be supported. A ‘Statement of Conformity’ must also accompany all products falling under the scope of the regulations. These new requirements are aimed at protecting consumers from cyber threats.

Beko plc has consistently been at the forefront of appliance technology and connected safety, with our Internet of Things (IoT) cybersecurity journey beginning in 2016 with the implementation of a Hardware Security Module that was integrated into appliances. In 2018, we won the inaugural IoT Security Foundation Championship Award and Jon Moor, IoTSF Managing Director said: “Arcelik’s (Beko’s) security journey is truly worthy of celebration. Having identified the critical need for security for their connected appliances, they gained executive buy-in, brought in external expertise, spread that internally and are now looking to help others.”

The following year, we became the first company to achieve Common Criteria approval within the EAL2 level for the home appliance industry and in 2021 Beko plc became the first home appliance company in the UK to receive a Silver Level certificate from the IASME product security assessment. As the first home appliance manufacturer in the UK to reach such a level of appliance security, we embrace the responsibility of leading the industry by keeping our appliances and processes up to date with current regulations.

Prior to the implementation of the PSTI Act, Beko plc partnered with SafeShark. The testing provided by SafeShark was vital to ensuring Beko appliances in the UK met regulation requirements. Arçelik's Head of IoT Security, Çağatay Büyüktopçu, said: “Working with SafeShark has been a great experience for us at Beko plc. As pioneers in IoT Cyber Security, ensuring compliance with PSTI is paramount for business. SafeShark's dedication to device security aligns perfectly with our values, and their 'as-a-service' model provides us with peace of mind for ongoing and continuous compliance.”

Understanding the intricacies of the PSTI was vital for Beko plc, and changes were made to ensure our appliances are as safe as possible for end users.
