Beko plc takes another step on their sustainability journey with the installation of solar panels

At Beko plc, we continue to look for ways to reduce our environmental impact and support our parent company in their goal of becoming Net Zero by 2050.

As part of our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of our own operations we commissioned the installation of solar panels at our offices in Watford. With this project, an average 21-25% of the grid electricity that we use in Watford on an annual basis will be replaced with self-generated solar energy, reducing our reliance on grid electricity and saving greenhouse gas emissions.

Following the full installation at the end of June, we’ve had periods of self-sufficiency and were able to export small quantities of electricity back to the grid. In the first full year of usage, we’re expecting to save almost 17 tonnes of CO2e emissions, saving approximately the same as 100,000 kilometres travelled by an average petrol car. During the 20-year forecasted lifetime of the solar panels, the expected emission reduction is approximately 208 tonnes of CO2e

We would like to thank Advantage Utilities and GenFit, for their assistance in making this project a reality. Advantage Utilities have helped to ensure the solar panels we used were high quality and responsibly sourced. Meanwhile, GenFit, a B Corp corporation, provided invaluable assistance with the installation of the panels.

The installation of solar panels at our Watford office is an important step in our journey to decarbonise our operations (Scope 1 and 2 emissions). This project, alongside measures already implemented, such as the installation of LED lights in Watford and energy efficiency initiatives throughout our UK locations, is progressing us towards our goal

Whilst we are aware that the majority of our company’s emissions are in Scope 3, up and down the value chain. We are committed to working closely with our partners and consumers to reduce them.

On further inspection, that reference doesn’t really work Also the disclaimer should be added in: *Considering a lifetime total generation of 1,571,024 KWh, as well as 2024 emission factor as baseline (0.2071kg CO2e/kWh) which gets a linear reduction to 0 by 2050 (annual reduction of 0.007964 kg CO2e/year on baseline).
