Beko plc’s parent company, Arçelik, awarded global accolade for the sixth year running in recognition of its sustainability efforts.
We are proud to announce that our parent company, Arçelik, has once again achieved the best CSA score in its sector, securing its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.
After scoring 87/100* in S&P Global’s 2022 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), Arçelik has once again been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). This exceptional performance means that, as of December 16th 2022, Arçelik is the highest scoring of all 46 companies assessed in the Household Durables Category of the DJSI.
The CSA is an independent evaluation of the world’s largest companies that assesses their sustainability performance, as well as their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts. Performance in the CSA is then used to determine inclusion in the DJSI, a set of indices that serves as a shortlist for the very highest-scoring companies in ESG criteria.
This is the sixth year running that Arçelik’s exceptional CSA performance has secured its inclusion in the DJSI, and the fourth consecutive year that it has topped the Household Durables category in this index. These impressive CSA results reflect our parent company’s unwavering commitment to building a sustainable future, once again establishing it as the benchmark brand in the industry.
Arçelik has set ambitious goals for the future, outlining that, by 2030, the company will use 100% green electricity in global production facilities. Further goals include a 45% decrease in energy consumption in the manufacture of its products, and a minimum USD 50 million investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
At Beko plc, we are committed to ensuring our own sustainability goals remain in alignment with the vision of our parent company. From increasing the number of our products with higher energy efficiency credentials as well as incorporating recycled materials more widely within our ranges, to working on improving efficiency in our operations, we remain committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our company as well as that of our consumers.
Commenting on Arçelik’s consistent inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, CEO Hakan Bulgurlu said:
“We are honoured to have been included in the DJSI for the sixth year in a row. It is an even greater privilege to have achieved the highest score in our sector for four years running, a result of our relentless efforts in pushing for a better future for all. Our climate goals sit at the heart of our business and impact everything we do, from our products all the way to our people. This prestigious recognition is a reaffirmation of our solid commitment to sustainability and is incredibly encouraging for our business.”
“Sustainability efforts are now of even greater significance as the world is going through turbulent times, ridden with economic instability, high inflation rates, and an energy crisis. In line with our purpose-driven business strategy, we will continue to design products and develop technologies that not only live up to our consumers’ expectations but also raise the standards for a greener industry.”
The DJSI recognition follows a host of additional sustainability accolades. Arçelik is the most sustainable white goods company to enter Corporate Knights’ Global 100 World’s Most Sustainable Companies ranking, and it has become the first and only company from its industry to receive the Terra Carta Seal by the Former Prince of Wales.
Additionally, Arçelik has been recognised for its progress in on-site sustainability measures at its plant in Ulmi, Romania, which was awarded Sustainability Lighthouse status by the World Economic Forum. This made it one of the 10 Sustainability Lighthouse sites in the Global Lighthouse Network.
These achievements are a testament to the way Arçelik and its subsidiary companies understand their responsibility to help build a brighter future.
