Beko plc's parent company, Arçelik, has recently opened its first Research & Development centre in the UK – in Cambridge. Supported by UKTI, the centre will focus on areas that will contribute to the development of innovative products in the field of white goods, with software design, new materials, and advanced production technologies taking priority.
Beko plc owes much of its success to Arçelik's world-class innovation teams and the significant investment in R&D, which is crucial to the future of Arçelik and is a key part of the global strategy. Our innovation capabilities enable us to enter into new markets with products that meet the needs and expectations of consumers.
In addition to the centre at Cambridge, we have eight R&D facilities in Turkey and one in Taiwan. Our global R&D team include more than 1300 researchers, submitting approximately 301 patent applications for new innovations and technologies - we look forward to building on this here in Cambridge to further develop usable technologies for the home.
Beko plc's new centre in Cambridge builds on the company's existing relationship with the world-renowned Cambridge University, providing an opportunity to target talent as well as start-ups, SME's and universities across the UK, to integrate leading innovations into our appliances of the future.
Richard Moore, Her Majesty's Ambassador to Turkey, said: "I would like to congratulate Arçelik on the opening of their research and development centre in Cambridge. My staff in Turkey and UKTI London have worked closely with Arçelik to realise this project and I believe this endeavour will play a pivotal role in strengthening both Arçelik's global R&D operations and, more widely, trade and investment relations between Turkey and the United Kingdom."
Lord Janvrin, the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy for Turkey, said: "After my visit to Arçelik research and development centre in Istanbul last year, I am delighted to welcome the opening of their research and development centre in Cambridge. This centre will allow Arçelik to expand its R&D activities in the UK, help it develop new and innovative home appliances and strengthen its position as one of the major home appliance companies in the global market. I am particularly pleased that Arçelik is growing its research and development here in collaboration with a number of leading UK universities."
Beko plc's R&D centre in Cambridge is also an official sponsor of the Cambridge University Boat Clubs (CUBCs). Beko plc will be providing branding on team kits and installing Beko appliances in the CUBC’s boat houses, including the brand new state-of-the-art boat house at Ely. The sponsorship will drive several community projects to inspire and support Cambridge children.
